You've found an effective treatment to relieve your body of pain
If you have injured or strained your body, by overstraining and over using your muscles, postural imbalances, or through any other incident, trigger point therapy provides an incredibly effective treatment for your recovery.
Based on the work of Dr Janet Travell and Dr David Simons, trigger point therapy involves systematic de-activation of trigger points (tight bands in the muscles, ligaments or tendons that refer pain to other areas). This effective treatment is beneficial when you are experiencing chronic, aching pain.
As your sessions progress, we will look into corrective and preventive exercises that will help you to prevent further discomfort and injury.
Note that we also provide sports massage for the treatment of sports injuries.
Please refer to the illustrations below for examples of trigger points. There is more information below these illustrations.
How will trigger point therapy effect you?
Effective treatment consists of various techniques to find and release your trigger points. These techniques may vary, depending on a number of factors. We will tailor your session to your requirements and get to the root cause of your pain, movement limitations and dysfunction.
Trigger point therapy is beneficial for a wide range of conditions, including: chronic sports injuries, headaches, carpal tunnel syndrome, TMJ, neck pain, jaw pain, stress and fatigue. It will also increase your range of motion, strength, endurance and other functions.
What can you expect from Integrated Structural Bodywork?
We will personally assess your requirements and provide therapy that meets your conditions. This may include hands on trigger point compression, myofascial release, ice and stretch, heat therapy, static stretching, PNF stretching, proprioreceptive strapping and a regime of corrective exercises (based on findings from postural observations, muscle strength, flexibility tests and movement analysis.
The rate of your improvement is dependant on a wide range of factors, which can include type and length of injury, your physical health and level of fitness, nutrition, sleep quality, mechanical abnormalities, self care and medical conditions. You may experience a decrease in pain after one treatment, but is usually noticed after a few.
Ensuring your recovery is as successful as possible
After care is vital to any successful and long lasting recovery. We can discuss everything that is required to make sure your recovery is as smooth as possible.
This could include increasing your water intake and completing corrective exercise and stretches. If required, I will strap the muscle with sports strapping tape to support it during recovery.
